The End

So Miami can have other weather than sun it seems. Today is told actually rather fast.

Surfin’ USA

Pity we had to go back. Not that we don’t like going to Miami, but driving back ultimately means that our vacation is coming to an end. Kinda sad, but on the other hand we do miss the cats…and I am looking forward to not packing up and leaving AGAIN for a while, that change thing can be a tad obnoxious after a while. I like hotels alright, but every two to three nights a new one? Gah. It’s like a box of chocola… err. No. Change of topic.

Spaceman
by Nevok on Nov.28, 2008, under Next Exit: US of A
It is a bit intimidating, standing in a location that could be called Mankind’s Gateway to the Moon. Our trip to Kennedy Space Center was pretty uneventful. Streets were agreeably filled with other cars, no big rush, no huge cavalcade of vehicles. What struck us as odd was the fact that we actually entered a wildlife refuge. On the other hand, it kinda makes sense. And, let’s face it, it’s a pretty decent deal for them. Once every so often there will be a start, and if you are a sensible manate instead of a dumb croc, you know that when there’s a lot of activity at one of the launch pads, you nibble on your greens a bit further away until there’s that big noise, fire, lit sky and everything quiets down again….

When You Wish Upon A Star
by Nevok on Nov.27, 2008, under Next Exit: US of A
The day started rather early. I am kinda glad we didn’t stay in a Disney Resort or the Hilton as that would have meant getting up in time to catch the bus…to be at th e park at 8 AM. That would have been a bit too much in hindsight, so I am still counting my blessings that we left the hotel with the 8:30 AM shuttle to Magic Kingdom.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
by Nevok on Nov.25, 2008, under Next Exit: US of A
Alright. A few people might have noticed already that I use song titles as headlines for my blog-entries. Song titles, hopefully, that kinda relate to the day’s events. Now, I also understand that not everyone is quite as much into music as I might be. So here’s today’s explanation: It’s a song by Iron Butterfly, kinda an ancestor song to my beloved Heavy Metal genre of music, and should have been named ‘Garden of Eden’. For some reason or other, there are many stories around, either through alcohol or other substance abuse, Doug Ingle was unable to pronounce the title in a way that anyone could understand him, and ‘In the Garden of Eden’ turned into ‘In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida’. Reckon you have to be pretty intoxicated for that…anyhow, this mondegreen stuck (a ‘mondegreen’ being a mishearing or misinterpration of a phrase, enough educational blogging for today, promise) and thus ‘In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida’ was born, laying roots together with ‘Voodoo Child’ and ‘Born To Be Wild’ for Heavy Metal.

Crocodile Rock

And yet another early morning start. Let’s see if this turns into a habit. Considering freezing temperatures in Germany though along with four inches worth of snow overnight….I think not

So, we DID find something about Key West we hate.
Leaving.

Margaritaville

Ok. Before we went to Key West, I got told over and over that either we fall head over heels in love with Key West…or that we will absolutely hate it.
Leaving Key Largo yesterday, I have to admit that a certain queasy feeling started spreading in my stomach when looking left and right, at least when it was…I was about to type civilized, but I think ‘looking lived-in’ would be more appropriate. Quite a few parts on the way to Key West have seen better times. Alright, yeah, they do get their share of hurricanes, still, some places look like they’d fare badly with or without the climate drawbacks down there.
Beyond the Sea

Something’s wrong. I went to bed at a normal time for me, 11 pm. And at 6 in the morning, I was wide awake. Not tired. Ready to begin the day. Well, as our next leg of the trip was about to begin, i.e. Key West, I figured what the heck and woke up Mel. After explaining to her that I think it’d be neat to start our tour in the early morning sun way before rush hour or anything else…and as we wanted to take the first glass bottom boat tour at 9:15 am at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, Mel was surprised but more than willing to start the day as well.
Where exactly did the image of me being of the cave bear mentality come from? It’s not like I usually sleep ’til lunch time during vacations.
Sheeesh.
